The Nether Poppleton local community turned out in force to support their local pub. Well over a hundred people declared their unanimous support to save The Lord Nelson at a packed meeting on the 5th June.  A community action group was formed of local people who agreed to work together to build a business plan and raise funds to make a bid to save the pub from closure. If you would like to join the committee please email our Clerk.

The Lord Nelson at Nether Poppleton is registered with the City as an Asset of Community Value, this gives the community the right to bid for the pub. The pubco giant, Enterprise Inns, gave notice that they intend to dispose of the pub and the local community have until 29 September to submit a bid.

Chairman of Nether Poppleton Parish Council, Cllr Glen Bradley, who facilitated the meeting said: "The huge turnout and overwhelming support of local people was heartening. I wish the new action committee every success in building a bid for the pub. It would be a great shame and a sad loss to the village if the Lord Nelson was closed."
